Single Review - Nicky Ros "Ven Ven"

Updated: Aug 8, 2020

Nicky Ros is an artist who uses his knowledge of music to drive R&B and the "Hyphy Movement" from the bay area. Every so often, Nicky also uses his gift of gab to touch hip-hop fans worldwide.

"In an ideal world, I want listeners to close their eyes and escape into the atmosphere of the music I make," he continues." There are so many harmonies, instrumental layers, and hits, and surround panning. I'd hope that everyone gets to pick out a different, new element every listen. Everything is intentional in my music and I'm grateful for those that pay attention to all the small intricacies."

Case in point, his single "ven, ven," shows the unification of different styles, thus getting us lost in a pleasurable listening experience. Tapping into a pop sensibility, Nicky uses his sweet Spanish vocal range to reinstate that "good things come to those who wait," in all aspects of life, but most importantly love. To learn more, read this brief Q&A with Nicky Ros below:

Person: You have a really versatile and unique style, how long have you been making music? Nicky Ros: Pretty much all of my first memories were musical. Watching The Backstreet Boys on their rotating platform of MSG when I was 6. The first time I ever sang in front of a group of people and felt that total rush of adrenaline and focus. Writing my first song when I was 9. The list goes on. Music has been the centerpiece of my life as long as I can remember. Person: What can you tell us about your song “ven, ven”? Nicky Ros: I’m so proud of “ven, ven”. There are songs that you spend 30-45 minutes writing and recording, and then there are projects like “ven, ven” that truly are month-long works of art. It was the first song that I produced, wrote, and released myself. I had several brilliant collaborators in the writing and arranging process: writer, arranger for the horn section, 4 female vocalists from 3 different countries, a male salsa singer from yet another country. It’s a combination of all the amazing music influences I’ve had in my life. Person: What is it about making music that draws such passion from you? Nicky Ros: Music is the one constant in life. Through every journey, struggle, and blessing I’ve been through, music has always remained the love of my life; my ultimate passion. I learn so much about my own emotions and how to properly communicate them through writing and recording music. It has fueled my self-awareness, growth and development, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. There’s no better feeling than when you create the perfect harmonies, perfect instrumental hits; it’s life’s greatest high. Person: What’s next for Nicky Ros? Nicky Ros: Music, then more music, and even more music. I’ve had an album sitting for about a year now and I cannot wait to finally release it now that the timing is right. It’s definitely my masterpiece thus far in my career and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with all of you. Person: Who is your inspiration? Nicky Ros: Personally, I visualize my future self and the man that I want to be, and I’m excited to work every day to become that person. Outside of myself, my mother is the ultimate inspiration and motivation. Her happiness, safety, and security are the most important thing. She gave her whole life for me and though I’ll never be able to truly repay her, I do my best to make sure she knows and feels how grateful I really am for all the sacrifices she’s made. Musically speaking: Justin Timberlake, T-Pain, Ne-Yo, Linkin Park, Audioslave. Those were my biggest childhood influences.
